I admit, I walked into Jordan hesitant. Getting on the plane, I kept thinking "what am I doing? I'm taking a 5 year old to the MIDDLE EAST?!?!". Every assumption I had about middle easterners was DEAD WRONG. Ok, so there was human waste in the street (don't get me started, that was the Suq though), and there were men who stared. However, when I chatted with a lovely family at Starbucks or met the chef of the fancy restaurant we ate at who wanted to show me how to build a decent marinade, that all washed away. Forget your assumptions, go to Jordan. It's stunning, the people are incredibly warm, and the food is fantastic. Just hire a driver to get to Petra, I swore I was taking my life into my hands by driving from Aqaba to Petra.
